Send emails to yourself, team members or respondents and even make them conditional based on form responses.
Email notifications are only available on paid plans (Silver/Gold/Enterprise plans).
Formly offers three types of email notifications:
Self email notifications
Self email notifications
With self email notifications, you (and your team members) will receive an email each time someone submits your form.
1. Open form from your Dashboard and go to your form settings and click on Email notifications
.
2. Here you can turn on the Self email notifications
toggle to receive emails whenever someone submits your form.
Customizing email fields
Below are the different email fields you can modify for self email notifications.
To field
The default email address for receiving email notifications is the account owner (linked to your Formly account). To add multiple email addresses, write or copy/paste email and press space bar.
Reply to (optional)
Email field(s) added in the form will appear here and you can use this to reply to your respondents directly from your email.
Subject
The default subject is ”Formly: new response for @Form name” and you can customize this.
From name
By default, the emails are sent from “Formly” and the domain “[email protected]”. You can customize the name of the sender, but the email domain of the sender is not customizable yet.
Email body
Customize the content as you like and type @
to get a list of form data. Select text to open the formatting options.
Include PDF
Tick "Include PDF" if you want to receive completed form as a PDF email attachment.
3. Click Save
to set this self email notification.
That’s it, you have successfully setup self email notifications.
Respondent email notifications
Respondent email notifications
Use respondent notifications to send an email to your respondents after form submission for thanking your respondents, sharing a summary of form responses, or sharing a score of a quiz etc.
1. Open form from your Dashboard and go to your form settings and click on Email notifications
.
2. Here you can turn on the Respondent email notifications
toggle to send an email to respondents when they complete a form.
Customizing email fields
Below are the different email fields you can modify for respondent email notifications.
To field
Email field(s) added in the form will appear here and you can use select this to send email to your respondents when they submit the form.
Reply to (optional)
Only use this field if you want respondents to be able to reply to your email.
Subject
The default subject is ”Formly: Thank you for filling out @Form name” and you can customize this.
From name
By default, the emails are sent from “Formly” and the domain “[email protected]”. You can customize the name of the sender, but the email domain of the sender is not customizable yet.
Email body
Customize the content as you like and type @
to get a list of form data. Select text to open the formatting options.
Include PDF
Tick "Include PDF" if you want to receive completed form as a PDF email attachment.
3. Click Save
to set this respondent email notification.
That’s it, you have successfully setup respondent email notifications.

With Formly, you can send different emails based on form responses.

The email notification will be triggered every time someone completes the form and matches the specified conditions.
1. Open form from your Dashboard and go to your form settings and click on Email notifications
.
2. Now go to Custom email notifications
and click on + icon
3. You can click the three dots to rename or delete the notification.
4. After clicking rename, you can simply start typing to give your notification a name.
5. Click on Set conditions
and the popup will show up where you can specify the required conditions.
6. Click on 3 dots
to add condition
. As you can see, Formly’s logic feature is built into custom email notification, so you can use add condition
to set up new logical rules, just like you would when adding logic to your form.
In this example, a email will only be sent when the order value is greater than $100 and they have selected express delivery.
7. If there is at least one condition added then Set conditions link changes to Edit conditions
and you can edit conditions by clicking on this link.
8. Click Save to set these condition(s).
9. Customizing email fields
Below are the different email fields you can modify for custom email notifications.
To field
In this field you can specify the email recipients who could be:
Respondents
Account owner/Admins
Any other external email addresses
Reply to (optional)
You can specify any email address in this field (e.g. [email protected]) as well as Respondents email or you can leave it blank.
Subject
